Abstract
Purpose Our aim was to investigate the effect of 60Co-γ-ray irradiation on to brome seed, and the effects of different doses of 60Co-γ-ray radiation on seed germination and early seedling growth were studied.Method The seeds of brome were irradiated by different doses (50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 Gy) of 60Co-γ-rays.Results The germination rate, germination potential and germination index of different radiation doses were inhibited in a certain extent, and 150-300 Gy groups showed significant difference compared with the control group. The vigor index, seedling height, root length and fresh weight was first increased and then decreased tend. When the radiation dose was 50 Gy, the determination of each index was the largest. With the increase of radiation dose, the inhibition effect of each index was enhanced,as compared with those in control group. The effect of different radiation doses on the dry weight of shoots was enhanced with the increase of the radiation dose, and 150-300 Gy groups showed significant difference compared with the control group. The effect of low dose radiation on seedling emergence rate and seedling height was promoted. The increase of dose, the inhibition effect was enhanced, and the high dose radiation completely inhibited the germination rate of seeds. According to effect of radiation dose on seed germination and seedling emergence rate, half lethal dose was 100-150 Gy confirmed. Conclusion In the range of 50-100 Gy, 60Co-γ ray irradiation could promote the activity, emergence and growth of brome, and in the range of 150-300 Gy it inhibited, and the inhibition was gradually enhanced.
