The Essence of Impoliteness: Evaluation

  • 摘要: 语言不礼貌研究中的观点分歧和理论缺陷与不礼貌本质的不明朗有很大关系。不礼貌与礼貌具有相同的本质,是释话人经过认知加工对语言语用效果的评价。说话人、受话人、甚至不在场的第三方都能成为释话人。评价具有评价者的主观性、标准的相对性、表达的多样性、观点的不确定性的特点。在认知语境观的基础上,以交际礼仪为参考,常被语言触发的交际语境依据有:身份、场合、心智状态和物理世界。探讨不礼貌的本质,不仅在理论研究上对明晰重点、拓展视角有所帮助,对实践中的话语参与者也有一定借鉴意义和可操作性。

     

    Abstract: That the essence of impoliteness eludes us has led to divisions and confusion in its studies. Impoliteness and politeness are the same in essence. Both of them areevaluations of utterances effects made by interpreters through cognitive processing. The utterer, addressee, and even the unpresent third party could be the interpreter.Subjectivity, relativity, variety and uncertainty are its characteristics. On the basis of communication etiquette and communicative context, status, setting, mental state andphysical world are factors mostly activated by interpreters cognition and influences on evaluation. Investigation on the essence of impoliteness not only clarifies itsresearch focus and broadens its study perspectives, but also would be of value for practitioners.
