Abstract:
Nowadays, the teaching of Advanced English, the essential course for English-major students of bachelor of arts, is at risk of being deprived of its integrity. Takingcertain vocabulary in the textbook as the point of departure, the author intends to promote a pathway to conduct the teaching of translation of sentences selected from onlinemainstream newspapers and magazines(including fashion magazines) in English-speaking countries. A series of examples in teaching practice of translation are offered to illustrate the aesthetic implication in exaggerated and embellished conditioning in advertising discourse as well as the accurate and appropriate delivery in journalisticdiscourse. It is indicated that such practice is a realistic option and effective pathway to enhance English-major students capability in analyzing and appreciating language,as well as retain and reinforce the professional and academic integrity of Advanced English.
