Abstract:
Originated in the Qing dynasty emper ofQianlong, the clay sculpture of Baigou in Hebei province is commonly known as mud doll. It was originally a craft made by some craftsmen to earn money forthe maintenance of their families. Later, it owns certain characteristic and makes Baigou a well-known village for clay sculpture in northern China at theend of Qing Dynasty. From the choice of mud to shaping, from the mixture of traditional color to coloring, clay sculpture has developed into an outstandingfolk craftwork with local feature. Without any chemical element included, the raw materials of clay sculpture are plant and minerals totally selectedlocally. The technology of color mixing and coloring has the unique technical process.
