Abstract:
In order to meet the increasinglyhigher professional standards and to enhance the quality of English language education at Chang'an University, an 18 weeks in-service teacher trainingprogram for English teachers is now being carried out in the University of Sheffield in UK,aiming at developing participants confidence and skills inusing more English in their lectures, giving them opportunities to reflect on and develop their ELT methodology, and enhancing their research initiative andmethod. Based on Wallace's reflective practice model, Foords five circles of professional development and according to the current situation of lack ofreflection in ELT teachers and their desire for self development at Chang'an University, a specifically designed reflective program for ELT teachersdevelopment has been shaped and increasingly improved. After the first and the second training session, much experience has been accumulated and some moreimprovements need to be made in the future training sessions in order to better serve the ELT teachers development purpose.
