Abstract:
By distributing questionnaire, the present research investigated 284 students of a newly upgraded university in terms of knowing about their English reading strategy employment. The descriptive statisticsresults reveal that the subjects had weak awareness of using reading strategies. Their reading strategy employment at before-reading stage and while-reading stage fall into moderate use level, while their strategy employment at after-reading stage fall into low use level. The ANOVA results indicate that female students used more strategies than their counterparts did; high-proficiency students employed more strategy than low-proficiency students did; but no significant variation was found between art-oriented students and science-oriented students. With regard to the research results, the author proposesthat it is important for English teachers to aware the significance of students use of reading strategies, as well as to train the students to employreading strategies.
