Abstract: Couplet largely appeared in the poetry of Englishliterature, whose founder was poet GeoffreyChaucer in the 14th century. He applied this style in the Canterbury Tales, his famous works, popular forcenturies. Poet AlexanderPope carried forward of such verse, with masterpieces, highly popular and far-reaching. Most romantic poets in the 14th centuryused this rhyme scheme in their verse. British playwright William Shakespeares sonnets, and the actors lines in Elizabeth and Jacobean drama wereemphasized in the end with couplets. HUANG Gao-xin, and FAN Shouyi are the experts in translation from English couplet poem into Chinese; whereas thetranslator, who applies couplet of Alexanders rhyme scheme to translate the classical Chinese poetry into English couplet poems achieving most possibleequivalency belongs to the prominent scholar XU Yuan-chong. Through the study of the couplet in English poetry it can enable us to read and appreciate thefamous poets works in English and American Literature, strengthen selfcultivation, and enrich our literary thought. While mastering the skills of poetrytranslation from the wellknown translators, we can make an endeavor to push forwards the ancient and modern literary achievements of our country to theworld.
