Abstract: Reading scholars’papers on Merton's norms of science, there are many people who develop or criticize Merton's norms of science can't fully understand it and even mistake it. Main problem concentrated on the following aspects: some people understand it to be practical standards of maintaining norms; some people equate it to be spirit of science; some people doubt the ethos of science is not unique; some people believe Merton's norms of science has an effect by controlling. Only out of these misconception,can we understand Merton's norms of science correctly.
