Exploring the Principles of EC and CE Metaphor Translation in Business News Based on the Comparative Study of Chinese and English Cultures

  • 摘要: 概念隐喻理论认为隐喻不仅是一种修辞手段,而且也是一种思维方式。隐喻大量存在于商务新闻中。本文从中英文化差异的角度来探讨商务新闻概念隐喻的英、汉互译,认为隐喻翻译与文化有很大关系,隐喻中的文化共性一般采用直译的方式,隐喻中的文化差异或文化空缺一般采用意译、非隐喻化方式、或者转用目标语中的隐喻表达方式来翻译。

     

    Abstract: According to conceptual metaphor theory, metaphor is not only a figure of speech but in its nature a way of thinking. It is wellrecognized that metaphors are pervasive in business English news. This paper carries out a study on the principles of EC and CE metaphor translation in business English news based on the comparative study of Chinese and English cultures. The author points out that there are three situations between English and Chinese metaphors translation: reproducing the same image in the TL(cultural overlaps in metaphor), replacing the image in the SL with a standard TL image (cultural diversity in metaphor) and converting metaphor to sense (cultural vacancy in metaphor).
