Abstract:
According to conceptual metaphor theory, metaphor is not only a figure of speech but in its nature a way of thinking. It is wellrecognized that metaphors are pervasive in business English news. This paper carries out a study on the principles of EC and CE metaphor translation in business English news based on the comparative study of Chinese and English cultures. The author points out that there are three situations between English and Chinese metaphors translation: reproducing the same image in the TL(cultural overlaps in metaphor), replacing the image in the SL with a standard TL image (cultural diversity in metaphor) and converting metaphor to sense (cultural vacancy in metaphor).
