Abstract: Metaphor is one of special expressions originating from certain context. Types of metaphor have been put forward by different researchers. Based on literature reviews this paper discusses the types of metaphor: conceptual metaphor, obsolete and fresh metaphor，visible and invisible metaphor，oneaspect and multi-aspect metaphor and etc. And it is suggested that literal，domestication，free，functional equivalence，alienation，and supplementary over translation strategies be used in metaphor translation. The discussion will enhance our understanding of constructions of English metaphor and be of help to the choice of translation strategies.
