Abstract:
By analyzing Emerson′s works, The American Scholar,The Poet and Stevens′letters, three aspects of Emerson′s poetics are concluded: “Selfreliance in poetics”, “Singing for the miracles in America”, and “Poets′ creation of new symbols”. Taking the comparative study of Anecdote of the Jar and The Rhodora as the major example and comparative study of Anecdote of the Jar and Ode on a Grecian Urn, The Rhodora and The Daffodils as the supportive examples, this thesis asserts that Wallace Stevens was influenced by the poetic tradition started by Ralph Waldo Emerson and Stevens carried on the tradition further.
