Abstract:
A computeraided course Selected Readings from English Newspapers and Magazines is shown in this paper to be highly necessary for undergraduate nonEnglish majors. Based on constructivism, the course requires that the traditional mode of English teaching, wherein class activities are centered on the teacher and only language knowledge is imparted, should be modified. Constructivism emphasizes that students should be organized, guided and assisted by the teacher when they utilize learning elements such as situation, cooperation, and conversation in their attempt to construct the meaning of language knowledge and other relevant knowledge. With their initiative, activeness and creativity fully elicited, students are expected to promote their ability to comprehend newspaper articles with great ease and accuracy. This paper delves into the orientation, the principles of teaching, as well as the mode and methods of implementing the course.
