Abstract: The degree of combination of English verb and other particles has a great influence in forming and understanding its semantics. The verbs used in phrasal verbs are action verbs and express simple actions. And the particles indicate the movement of the action. The combination of these makes them easy to form a new meaning. Most of the verbs and the particles are onesyllable words and they are pronounced like single words by liaison. Comparing with corresponding one word synonyms， we can know phrasal verbs are vivid expressions.
