Abstract:
Teacher talk, one of an important component of teachers’ behaviors, refers to the speech that teachers use in EFL classrooms to carry out the teaching tasks and organize the classroom activities. Speech Act Theory is one of important theory in Pragmatics. To apply the Speech Act Theory to analyze the teacher talk can not only explore the problems existing in teacher talk but lay the significant basis for improving and evaluating English classroom teaching. In this paper, the author attempts to apply the Speech Act Theory to analyze the English teacher talk in China, and to offer some suggestions of the improvement of teacher talk.
