Abstract: Because of the differences in features, culture, etc. between Chinese and English, “ban” in Chinese is not completely equal to “ban” in English in grammatical functions, semantic meanings and expressions, etc. By now, comprehensive and thorough studies on “ban” in Chinese have been fulfilled, and those on “ban” in English have little been achieved, but an all-round contrastive study on “ban” between Chinese and English has less been done. By contrasting, analyzing and concluding “ban” in Chinese and English from grammatical functions, semantic meanings, expressions and translation, this paper tries to get a deeper understanding of “ban” in Chinese and English.
