Abstract:
Based on the construction of Ming Dynasty, Kunming City continued its development in streets in the early period of Qing Dynasty. About forty streets are known to have been built inside the city walls, most of which were extending in the fan-shaped region southeast, south and southwest Wuhua Mountain. The streets outside, however, had remarkably developed off balance. Outside the south gate there were historically a large number of streets, and several ran along the east bank of the Panlong river outside the south-east gate, which turned a new leaf in the regional expansion and development of Kunming city. In addition, quite a few streets were also distributed outside the west gate and the east gate respectively, and their construction was closely correlated with the transportation. The street construction in this period changed the regional structure of Kunming city, and further strengthened the city's function in trade and economy, which, to some degree, indicated that the city's streets had developed beyond the limitation of the city walls.
