Abstract: The semantic meanings of words are the reflections of cultures, and different cultures determine the differences of word semantic domains. Color words are frequently used in both English and Chinese cultures. The comparison and contrast between English and Chinese color words can to a high extent reflect the Sino-English semantic differences due to the different cultural practices. Thus they can play a positive role in the promotion of cross-cultural communication and language teaching.
