Abstract:
Due to the differences between the original culture and the target culture, target readers may encounter understanding barriers caused by the lack of original cultural background. Therefore, translators must make cultural compensation to those contents which may cause understanding difficulties to target readers, and help them understand and experience the original culture. This paper selects some representative examples of cultural compensation in Lin Yutang's English translation works to analyze and explore the methods and effects of cultural compensation, and finds out that cultural compensation is an essential and effective strategy in cross-cultural translation, expecting to offer useful references to translation practice.
