Abstract:
Louis Althusser has put forth state apparatuses which not only include repressive state apparatuses, but also include ideological state apparatuses. He has further stated that ideology interpellates individuals as subjects who subject to the predetermined social role. This paper aims to analyze white colonialists Charlie, Dick and Tony who seem to be the dominant actually represent their imaginary relations to their real conditions of existence through interpreting the dominating ideology in The Grass Is Singing. Through analyzing it, it can be known that the innate ideology affects how a person behaves as a discourse and is an indispensable part of society. Although we can't change the ruling ideology, we should adapt ourselves to society so that we can survive.
