-
Abstract: Susanna Moodie is a writer of early Canadian literature in English and Roughing It in the Bush is her important work recording her life experience as an immigrant. Marginality of her cultural identity can be reflected in her choosing of the words in Roughing It in the Bush and commenting of England and Canada. In contemporary literature, Susanna Moodie and her story were regarded as writing materials of Canadian writers and became the symbol of the collective consciousness in Canadian literature. It can be found from this case study that the issue of cultural identity is important to the study of Canadian literature in English and how Canadian immigrant literature has an giant effect on contemporary works.
