Thrips Species and Distribution on Vegetables in Yuxi City

  • Purpose Our aim was to define the species and distribution of thrips on vegetable in Yuxi City, which can provide the theoretical base for the management of the thrips.Method Thrips species on vegetable were collected and identified in 2014 in Yuxi city include 8 counties and 1 district, which were prepared and identified indoors.Results 1992 thrips adults specimens were collected and identified, representing 18 species, belonging to 7 genera of 3 families in 2 sub-orders,of which, 1 genera, 2 species belong to 1 genus of Aeolothripidae were natural enemies. Fourteen species belong to 5 genera of Thripidae, 2 species belong to 1 genus of Phlaeothripidae. The number of Frankliniella occidentalis was maximum, occupying 55.8% of all species. Also it was a widespread species distributing in 8 counties and 1 district;then thrips tabaci took the second distribution in 8 counties.Conclusion Vegetables belonging to Cruciferae, Leguminosae, Liliaceae, Compositae and Solanaceae were commonly damaged by thrips. F.occidentalis was the predominant thrips which was the target species for management. Few natural enemy of Aeolothrips was found, and the distribution area is limited.
