Effect of Biochar Application Amount on Growth, Yield and Quality of Flue-cured Tobacco Plants

  • Purpose Our purpose was to explore the effect of biochar application amount on growth, yield and quality of Flue-cured tobacco plants.Method Field experiments were conducted to study the influence of biochar in different amount i.g. 0, 450, 600 and 750kg/hm2 respectively on the growth, leaves yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco plants with variety K326 in Xundian and Yun 87 in An'ning. Results The results indicated that tobacco plants' growth, maturity, yield, economic value and quality were significantly affected by biochar application amount. Moreover, similar tendency existed in two sites. Biochar application both resluted into undesirable growth in early stage, but better condition when approching to the harvest. Compared with the contrast, better growth, better maturity and the highest leaves yiled and economic value were obtained for the plants with biochar applied at 600kg/hm2. Meanwhile rational chemical components were found with biochar application amount at 600kg/hm2 in An'ning and 750kg/hm2 in Xundian. Conclusion It is suggested that biochar could be applied at 600 kg/hm2 in flue-cured tobacco production at the similar sites.
