Resistance Evaluation on Sugarcane Varieties of Regional Trial to Borers on Early Growth Stage in Guangxi

  • Purpose In order to provide evidence for rational distribution of sugarcane varieties and synthesize prevention and control to borers, the damage of borers and sugarcane varieties resistance of regional trial in Guangxi should be determined.Method A survey to occurrence of borers was conducted in 6 experimental points on early growth stage of sugarcane in Guangxi in 2015. According to the incidence, sugarcane varieties resistance to borers was comprehensive evaluated by dead heart index and cluster analyze. Results Dead heart rate was from 0 to 30.60%, and dead heart index was from 0 to 100.00 in the whole experimental points. There was the highest incidence of borers in Nanning City pilot. In all tested varieties, resistance sugarcane variety to borers was no found, 6 varieties were of the middle sensitivity to borers (MS), accounting for 50%; 4 varieties were sensitive to borers (S), accounting for 33%; 2 varieties were high sensitive to borers (HS), accounting for 17%. The results of clustering analysis matched that the resistance performance of tested sugarcane varieties in field. Conclusion Incidence of borers in different sugarcane region was obviously inconsistent. Significant differences of resistance were found between tested sugarcane varieties, and the ratoon cane was damaged by borers more seriously than newly planted cane.
