Abstract
We investigated the olfactory response of Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius) to odorous released from nine different plants, capsicums, tobacco, garlic and etc, with a Y-tube olfaetometer in laboratory. The results showed that the odour of plants capsicum, tobacco, garlic, Chinese prickly ash and black pepper played attractive effects on L. serricorne (Fabricius) adults extremely significantly (P0.01). In addition, extract from capsicums with n-hexane played attractive effects to L. serricorne adults extremely significantly (P0.01) as well. The odour of ginger played significant attractive effect(P0.05)to L. serricorne. The odour of cumin, amomum tsao-ko and star anise, however, played significant repellent effects to L. serricorne adults. Two among of them, the odour of cumin and amomum tsaoko repelled L.serricorne adults significantly (P0.05). The odour of star anise played extremely significantly repellent effects (P0.01) to L. serricorne adults. This research provides some valuable insights for development of botanical pheromones for cigarette beetle L. serricorne (Fabricius) control.
