Effects of Low Temperature and Cryopreservation on Fruit Set Percentage and Seed Yield of Tomato

  • In order to study the effects of different treatments on the fruit set percentage and seed yield of tomato, based on the breeding of Ryau96172I and Ryau9327D tomato strains as test materials in Yunnan Agricultural University College of Landscape and Horticulture, low temperature (4℃, treatment I ) and cryopreservation (-196℃, treatment II) conditions were adopted to preserve pollen, meanwhile, contrasting to the normal atmospheric temperature (CK), the fruit set percentage, fruit seed weight, average single fruit seed weight, the amount of seeds and average seeds per fruit were compared and analyzed after supplemental pollination. The results showed that compared with the control, treatment I and treatment II had no significant effect on fruit set percentage.Treatment I had no significant effect with contrast on fruit seed weight, average single fruit seed weight, the amount of seeds and average seeds per fruit; but treatment II showed the results significantly lower compared with the control. The result above showed that the conserving the pollen had an important effect on seed yield of tomato.
