Abstract
Taxonomic sufficiency (TS) was defined by ELLIS in 1985, to mean that in any project, organisms must be identified to a level which balances the need to indicate the biology of organisms present with accuracy in making the identifications. It had greatly promoted biodiversity research, especially -diversity, which was applied in biodiversity and environmental assessment. We introduced TS application in aquatic and terrestrial environment, and its role in biodiversity assessment shortcuts, to develop biodiversity and environmental impact assessment in China.
