Effects of Different Base Fertilizer Application Rates on Agronomic and Quality Traits of Next Generation Dryland Rice

  • Purpose The study aimed to investigate the effects of different base fertilizer application rates on the main agronomic and quality traits of next generation dryland rice (NGDR).
Methods Using hybrid japonica rice Dianheyou 615 (DHY 615) and conventional japonica rice Chugeng 54 (CG 54) as experimental materials, treatments with base fertilizer (compound fertilizer) application rates of 600, 480, 360, and 240 kg/hm2 were set up to analyze the differences in main agronomic and quality traits of the rice under different treatments.
Results 1) With the increase in the application rate of base fertilizer, the main traits of NGDR, such as plant height, tiller number, effective panicle number, seed-setting rate, grain number per panicle, and yield, significantly increased. The optimal performance was observed when the application rate was 480 and 600 kg/hm2, and there was no significant difference between the two rates. 2) With the increase in the application rate of base fertilizer, the rice quality was improved. When the application rate was 480 and 600 kg/hm2, the brown rice rate, milled rice rate, protein content, amylose content, and taste value of rice were optimal, indicating good quality.
Conclusion When the base fertilizer application rate is 480 and 600 kg/hm2, the yield of NGDR is higher and the quality is better. The recommended base fertilizer application rate is 480 kg/hm2, which can achieve the goal of stable yield, improved quality, and enhanced efficiency.
