Abstract
As the second most heavily traded global commodity after crude oil, the coffee industry continues to expand, while the accompanying issue of resource wastage from by-products grows increasingly pressing. To align with green manufacturing and sustainable development principles, it is imperative to investigate the critical factors restricting industrial utilization of coffee by-products and enhance the comprehensive utilization of coffee by-products processing. This review methodically examines current applications of coffee by-products across multiple domains: nutritional composition, agricultural applications, research on bioactive constituents, energy production, eco-composite materials, animal feed, and light industrial and textile uses. Furthermore, we provide specific recommendations and forward-looking perspectives regarding stability-enhanced processing techniques for active components, exploration of precision nutrition functions, and development of diversified, customized functional products, aiming to provide theoretical basis and practical reference for in-depth research and high-value utilization of coffee by-products.
