Selection and Application of Grading Appearance Characteristics of Fresh Cigar Tobacco Leaves in Yunnan

Purpose To establish grading standards for fresh cigar tobacco leaves in Yunnan.

Methods Characteristic factors affecting the appearance quality of fresh tobacco leaves were explored to determine technical indicators. Experimental and purchase verifications were then conducted in cigar tobacco producing areas.

Results Fresh cigar tobacco leaves were classified into two types: wrapper and filler. Each type was divided into three groups: leaf, cutters, and lugs, with each group consisting of three grades. The grading indicators for wrapper leaves included leaf length, integrity, uniformity, vein characteristics, body, maturity, purity, and waste rate. The grading indicators for filler leaves included leaf length, maturity, body, integrity, purity, and waste rate.

Conclusion The quality standards are scientific, reasonable, and easy to implement, providing significant guidance for the large-scale development and application cigar tobacco leaves in Yunnan.
