Adhesion and Static Sedimentation Characteristics of Porridge Feed

  • Purpose To determine the adhesion and static sedimentation characteristics of pig porridge feed under different temperatures and moisture content conditions.
Method Using six kinds of pellet feeds of three brands of piglet and sow feeds as raw materials, the moisture content was calculated, and a certain amount of water were added and mixed evenly to prepare porridge feed. Under different temperatures and moisture contents, the bulk density, viscosity, adhesion force, adhesion weight and static sedimentation characteristics of porridge feed were measured by using relevant experimental devices.
Results Under room temperature, when the moisture content increased from 70% to 90%, the average bulk density of porridge feed decreased from 1.084 g/cm3 to 0.983 g/cm3, the adhesion force decreased from 2.66 N to 0.08 N, and the average adhesion weight decreased from 85.90 g to 1.50 g. When the moisture content increased from 75% to 90%, the average viscosity decreased from 33.04 Pa·s to 0.46 Pa·s. For porridge feed with 80% moisture content, when the temperature decreased from 60 ℃ to 20 ℃, the average viscosity increased from 11.08 Pa·s to 16.13 Pa·s. With the increase of moisture content, the static sedimentation characteristics of porridge feed of various brands showed a similar trend, an obvious stratification phenomenon occurred, and there were differences in the height of the suspended layer.
Conclusion The determination of adhesion characteristics and static sedimentation characteristics parameters of the porridge feed can provide a reference for the key structure design of the supporting machinery in feed production, processing, storage, transportation, and feeding.
