Purpose To screen high-quality canine Lactobacillus, providing a scientific basis for the development of canine biological agents.
Methods A total of 20 feces from healthy Kunming dogs were collected and inoculated into MRS agar medium for isolation and culture. Morphological observation, 16S rDNA sequencing comparison, and biochemical characteristics were used to isolate and obtain canine Lactobacillus, which was further screened by acid resistance test, bile salt resistance test, and bacteriostatic test.
Results A total of 18 strains of Gram-positive bacilli were isolated and confirmed to be Lactobacillus by 16S rDNA sequencing and biochemical characterization. Through the acid resistance test and bile salt resistance test, six strains of Lactobacillus with good tolerance were screened, and it was found that LM strains of Lactobacillus muris isolated from dogs had strong inhibitory effect on both Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium.
Conclusion The selected LM strains of L. muris can be used in the development of canine-derived biologics.
