Quantitative Estimation of Nutrient Resources Supply of Livestock Manure in Yunnan Province and Analysis of Its Potential to Substitute Chemical Fertilizer

  • PurposeBased on the development status of planting and breeding industry in Yunnan Province, the current situation of nutrient resources of livestock manure and its potential to substitute chemical fertilizers were estimated by comprehensively considering the factors such as crop planting area, planting structure and livestock manure treatment technology.
MethodsBased on the literature and statistical methods, the data were processed and expressed to estimate the nutrient requirements of agricultural cultivation and nutrient resources supply in Yunnan Province. Scenario analysis was used to evaluate the utilization pattern of livestock manure resources and the potential of substitute chemical fertilizers.
Results1) The nutrient requirements of crops in Yunnan Province were 70.27×104 t for nitrogen (N), 18.22× 104 t for phosphorus (P) and 65.89×104 t for potassium (K); and the nutrient supply of livestock manure were 47.30×104 t for N, 8.82×104 t for P and 45.98×104 t for K. 2) “Solid manure composted and processed into organic manure, and fermentation process of liquid manure biogas slurry” was the best treatment mode. The available nutrients were 36.83×104 t, 7.90×104 t and 41.59×104 t, accounting for 52.41%, 43.36% and 63.12% of the crop N, P, K requirements, respectively. 3) Under the premise of straw returning to the field, in Yunnan Province, the replacement range of N fertilizer was 52.41%-72.05%, the replacement range of P fertilizer was 43.36%-63.65%, and the replacement range of K fertilizer was 63.12%-139.79%. 4) At the same time of straw returning to the field, with the application of livestock manure, there was a trend of P surplus in part areas of Yunnan Province.
ConclusionLivestock manure of Yunnan can provide nutrient resources for crops. A reasonable livestock manure treatment process can improve the effective nutrient content of livestock manure and enhance the potential to substitute chemical fertilizers.
