PurposeTo study the effects of okra polysaharide on free radical metabolism and glucose metabolism in endurance training mice.
MethodsHealthy Kunming male mice were selected as the experimental objects, and the endurance exercise model was established by load swimming training. The mice were randomly divided into quiet group (group A), control group (group B), and okra polysaharide group (group C, low, moderate and high dose group named C1, C2 and C3). The activity, behavior and body weight of the mice were observed. The contents of creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), blood lactic acid (BL), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) in serum, muscle glycogen and liver glycogen, and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) while the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in tissues were determined.
ResultsCompared with group A, the weight of mice in group B increased slowly, the fatigue characteristics of mice were obvious, the time from swimming to exhaustion was short, the contents of CK, LDH, BL, BUN, GPT and GOT increased, the contents of muscle glycogen and liver glycogen had no significant change, the activity of SOD in liver increased, the activity of CAT in liver and skeletal muscle decreased, and the content of MDA in liver and skeletal muscle increased. In group C3, after endurance training with 400 mg/kg of okra polysaharide, the mice gained weight, improved behavioral characteristics, prolonged the time from swimming to exhaustion, decreased the contents of CK, LDH, BL, BUN, GPT and GOT, increased the content of muscle glycogen and liver glycogen, decreased the activity of SOD in liver, increased the activity of CAT in liver and skeletal muscle, and decreased the content of MDA in liver and skeletal muscle.
ConclusionOkra polysaharide can improve the free radical metabolism and glucose metabolism of endurance training mice, so as to improve the exercise ability of mice and exert the anti fatigue function.
