Abstract
Plant anther and pollen development are essential for plant reproduction and crop yield. Plant male sterility due to anther defects has important application value in the process of crop hybrid breeding. We reviewed the molecular mechanism of aborted microspores (AMS) in Arabidopsis, rice, melon, pepper, grape, soybean, and onion that causes pollen abortion. AMS gene plays an important role in transcriptional regulation of other genes during tapetum and pollen wall development in the anthers. By analyzing the complex regulatory pathways of anther development in different species, we hoped to provide reference for the related research of plant male sterility.
