Purpose To study the chemical constituents of rice hulls and their herbicidal activities.
Methods The chemical components from chloroform fractions of ethanol extract of rice hulls were isolated and identified by the methods of column chromatography and modern spectroscopic in this paper.
Results Seven compounds were isolated and identified as tricin-7-O-neohesperidoside (1), tricin (2), stigmast-4-en-6β-ol-3-one (3), stigmast-4,22E-dien-6α-ol-3-one (4), 1-(3-hydroxy-4-nethoxyphenyl) ethanone (5), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy cinnamic aldehyde (6), tachioside (7) on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and comparison of their spectroscopic data with literature values.
Conclusion Compounds 1 and 3-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 1 and 2 could remarkable inhibit the growth of Echinochloa crusgalli at a concentration of 50 μg/mL.
