Purposes Rice grain and brown rice related traits are the important factors that influence the yield and quality of rice. And those traits are all quantitative traits. Study on the genetic pattern of those traits based on appropriate genetic segregation population, is the basis of mapping and cloning related function genes.
Methods A recombinant inbred line (RIL) containing 90 lines were constructed with American Nuda Rice, US19 and a Yunnan Local Rice variety, TJ15 as parents by single seed descent method. And the genetic pattern of grain and brown rice related traits were researched using correlation and path analysis based on the data of RIL.
Results The grain and brown rice traits, such as grain length (GL), grain width (GW), length-width ratio (L/W), brown rice length (BRL), brown rice width (BRW), brown rice length-width ratio (BL/W), thousand grain weight (TGW) and brown rice ratio (BRR) were continuous distribution, accord with quantitative trait feature. All studying traits were wide-ranging variation, and exited a lot of super-parent lines in RIL. Correlation analysis showed that TGW was positive related GL, GW, BGL and BGW (P<0.05). Path analysis showed that GW and L/W were the main traits which influence the TGW. The shape of brown rice is depended by the grain shape, and the brown rice ratio is mainly related with TGW.
Conclusion There is a wide range of genetic recombination variation in the recombinant inbred line population derived from American Nuda Rice, US19 and a Yunnan Local Rice variety, TJ15. Except GW and grain length-width ratio, there are other traits that have a significant effect on grain weight, high BRR can be found in both slender grain type rice and short round grain rice, and this is the basis for study the relationship between BRR and grain filling feature based our data and create excellent germplasm materials.
