Purpose The phylogenetic relationship analysis between the sequences of SUTs and the upstream sequences of these genes in Arabidopsisthaliana and Oryza sativa provides the reference for further research on the function and molecular regulation of SUTs family.
Method The phylogenetic relationships of SUTs and their upstream sequences were analyzed by adjacent method and gene structure analysis.
Results The GC contents of SUTs and their upstream sequences were significantly higher in rice than that in Arabidopsis. The SUTs were divided into three subgroups by genetic structure, which is consistent with the classification of adjacent method. The correlation between the sequence length and GC content of upstream sequence of SUCs in Arabidopsiswas not obvious, while the sequence length of the upstream region of SUTs in rice was negatively correlated with its GC content. The phylogenetic relationship of AtSUC6-9 upstream sequences was completely consistent with the phylogeny of genes, but the phylogenetic relationships of upstream sequences of other AtSUCs and OsSUTs were not consistent with that of gene sequences.
Conclusion SUTs genes were relatively conservative in their sequences and gene structures during evolution, while their upstream sequences change greatly in evolutionary process, revealing the complexity of regulatory sequence of SUTs gene.
