Effects of Beating Degree of Pulp, Chitosan and Guar Gum on Cutting Loss of Paper-process Reconstituted Tobacco

  • Purpose In order to improve the effective utilization rate of paper-process reconstituted tobacco in the process of cigarette processing and to reduce the dust on the primary processing line.
Method The cutting loss of reconstituted tobacco was investigated from the beating degree of tobacco pulp, adding chitosan and guar gum to product formula, respectively.
Result The cutting loss of reconstituted tobacco was decreased by 2.07%, 2.33%, 3.69% and 4.32%, when the beating degree of tobacco pulp increased from 35 °SR to 45, 55, 65 and 75 °SR, respectively; the cutting loss of reconstituted tobacco had no significant effect after adding chitosan in the pulp, but it was reduced to some extent after adding guar gum, declined by 1.08% when its dosage was 0.2%; the cutting loss of reconstituted tobacco was decreased to some extent when the chitosan and guar gum were added into the coating solution, declined by 2.78% and 3.50% respectively when the dosage was 0.3%.
Conclusion Adjusting the beating degree of the pulp and adding suitable amount of chitosan or guar gum to the pulp or coating solution can reduce the cutting loss of reconstituted tobacco, and improve the effective utilization rate and the production environment in the process of cigarette processing.
