Social Construction from the Perspective of Liberalism: Reading the Old Regime and the Revolution

  • The French Revolution carried on the banner of freedom and equality, but in the end did not achieve the desired goal, the revolution came to an end with the dictatorship of Napoleon. The people did not get a real sense of freedom, but became a dictatorship under the crowd. But the French Revolution not only destroyed the French feudal system, eliminated the development of French capitalism obstacles, spreaded progressive thoughts of bourgeois about freedom, promoted the development of world history, but also greatly stimulated people's inspiration, form a variety of theories, have a profound influence on later generations. Tocqueville combined his own aristocratic background with the modern concept of freedom, and formed a unique theory of freedom. By interpreting Tocqueville's points about freedom, we know that, how the development of liberty influence the Franch people's living condition and spiritual outlook before and after the French Revolution.
