An Empirical Analysis of English Learning Motivation for Non-English Majors' Freshmen in Independent College

  • This paper aimed to investigate English learning motivation types, motivational intensity, self-confidence and relationship among them for non-English majors freshmen in independent college by questionnaire method. The subjects were from 192 non-English-major independent college freshmen. The statistical findings indicated students' achievement motivation was in the first place. Four types of motivation such as achievement, situational, intrisic interesting and information media have significant effect on student's motivational intensity. For the students in group medium and low in motivational intensity, students with higher achievement and information media motivation made less learning effort. College entrance exam results were not directly related to their effort in English learning.
