Barber's Theory as an Inheritance and Extension of the Mertonian Norms

Barber inherited the theoretical treasures from Merton and extended the theory of Mertonian Norms by raising the question of cultural values, seeking to give a cultural interpretation to the concept of the social norms of science. The social norms of science reveal the existence of an ideal feature in the scientific kingdom, creating social tensions between the ideal science and real-life social cultures such as in realms of politics, economics, religions, ethnicities, nationalities and etc. The social implication of the Mertonian Norms is that our society must provide a tolerant cultural environment in order to support a good development of science.
