Abstract
The study is intended to present a thorough review of domestic research into universal pragmatics, and to draw implications from universal pragmatics for empirical pragmatics to provide new approaches and perspectives for pragmatic studies. The theoretical research of universal pragmatics roughly falls into three categories:theoretical introduction and interpretation, comparative studies with related theories and concepts, and in-depth analysis of key notions. The applied research is directed to draw implications for translation and discourse studies.Despite the normative guidance and new perspective universal pragmatics may provide for empirical pragmatics, the significance of the former in the latter has not received adequate attention and investigation.
