The Psychological Model of Attachment in Rural Places: A Case Study of Guantun, Yao’ an in Yunnan Province

  • This study took Guantun Community in Chuxiong Prefecture as a case study by using questionnaire surveys and interviews with villagers. It measured the perceptions of indigenous residents towards their rural environment from three dimensions: person, villages, and processes. The study explored the relationship between rural place attachment and these three elements. The results indicated that, individuals, villages, and cognitive factors had a direct positive impact on rural place attachment. Conversely, village factors exerted a direct negative influence on place attachment, with the most significant negative impact observed in the dissatisfaction with facilities for children, middle-aged and elderly individuals,as well as healthcare and road infrastructure.Within the cognitive-affective-behavioral dimensions of place attachment, cognition had a significant direct impact, while affect and behavior exerted an indirect influence. This study proposed a model of rural place attachment, elucidating the mechanism of its influencing relationship, with the aim of providing scientific support for improving the rural living environment.
