The Influence of Skip-generation Raising on the Socialization of Left-behind Children in Rural Areas: Based on the Baseline Data of CEPS 2013—2014

  • Based on the baseline data of CEPS 2013—2014, this study selected a specific group of rural left-behind children in junior high schools, a linear regression model was constructed to investigate the relationship between the skip-generation raising and the socialization of rural left-behind children in junior high schools. The study found that there was a significant gap between the socialization of rural left-behind children in the skip-generation raising and that of left-behind children in parental care; the skip-generation raising model had a significant impact on the socialization of rural left-behind children in interpersonal interactions and emotional socialization, and the skip-generation raising model was not conducive to the socialization of rural left-behind children. In order to overcome the negative effects of intergenerational parenting, families need to improve their guardianship and strengthen emotional communication between parents and children; schools need to complement and implement humanistic education and give more care and support to rural left-behind children; the state and government need to vigorously develop the rural economy and continuously improve the rural social support system.
