Purpose The chemical constituents of Capparis spinosa L. were analyzed.
Method The compounds were isolated by silica column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and RP-18 reverse-phase column chromatography from the EtOAc extract. The structures were characterized by various spectroscopic (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and MS) and comparison with the data of literatures.
Result Twelve compounds were isolated from the EtOAc extract, and identified as (R)-2,4-dimethoxy-2-methyl-6H-pyran-3-one (1), capparilosides A (2), indole-3-carboxylic acid (3), uracil (4), 5-(methoxymethyl)-1H-pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde (5), 4-hydroxy-5-methylfuran-3-carboxylic acid (6), benzoic acid (7), salicylic acid (8), (2R,4aR,8aR)-3,4,4a,8a-Tetrahydro-4a-hydroxy-2,6,7,8a-tetramethyl-2-(4,8,12-trimethyltridecyl)-2H-chromene-5,8-dione (9), α-tocopherol (10), isoquercitrin (11), rutin (12).
Conclusion Compounds 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 were isolated from C. spinosa L. for the first time.
