Abstract:
Cultural default is defined as “absences of relevant cultural background knowledge shared by the author and his intended readers.” This paper has summarized the current situation of studies on cultural default, based on which, the reasons for the misuse of cultural default are explored. And from the perspective of cultural translation, the relationship among cultural default, cultural vacancy, culturalspecific items and culturalloaded words as well as the connotation of cultural default are discussed and supplemented.
